Class Schedule

Fun and educational classes held on the grounds of the arts Festival. There’s something to learn for students of all ages. Class size is limited.

To register, you may either register online or complete and return this form and return by mail (or drop off in person at 23 South Lansdowne Avenue)

SATURDAY, 9/8

Decoupage with Debbe*
Instructor: Debbe Sirlin
Saturday, September 8 • 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Cost: $10 pass (includes all three Saturday classes marked with*)
Ages: 8 and up (adults welcome)
Discover decoupage – the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, varnishing and sanding. Bring in a small item or we will give you a wooden cigar box at class and create your own pattern when you cut images from magazines to decorate the piece. We will show you the finishing steps and you can finish it at home. Call it refurbishing or embellishing, either way, you will leave class with a beautifully decorated item and a new skill.

Making Stuff with Marty*
Instructor: Martha von Rosenstiel
Saturday, September 8 • Noon – 1:30

Cost: $10 pass (includes all three Saturday classes marked with*)
Ages: All ages (under 6 accompanied by adult only)
Join Marty and friends as they demonstrate the basic process for making stuff with trash. There will be an exhibition of things made from recycled materials and students will get to try their hand at paper folding to create bowls, picture frames and more. This class promotes a different way of looking at what we throw away.
Class limited to 10 students.


Hand-Dyed Scrap Paper Project*

Ages: 8 and up (adults welcome)
Explore this unique material through a quilt-inspired collage project…a rainbow of possibilities awaits!

Intro to Stained Glass
Instructor: Richard Prigg
Saturday, September 8 • 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Cost: $15
Ages: 11 and up (adults welcome)
Students will have the opportunity to create a stained glass piece from pre-cut glass under the direction of Rick Prigg, previous General Manager of Willet Hauser Architectural Glass, Inc., the oldest and largest stained glass studio in the country and current operator of his own stained glass studio in Lansdowne.
Class size limited to 8 students.


SUNDAY, 9/9

Cluster Earrings
Instructor: Liz Steele Coats
Sunday, September 9 • Noon – 1:00 pm

Cost: $5
Ages: 12 and up (adults welcome)
Learn to create glamorous sterling silver and gemstone cluster earrings as you bend, twist, and bead jewelry wire onto pierced earring hooks.


Charm Bracelet
Instructor: Liz Steele Coats
Sunday, September 9 • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Cost: $5
Ages: 10 and up (adults welcome)
Students will learn basic jewelry-making techniques as they create bead bracelets involving looping, crimping, and beading.
Class limited to 15 students.

Watch and learn – Demonstrations are FREE and open to attendees of all ages! All demonstrations take place in the Kids Art Tent. No pre-registration necessary.


Capturing a Likeness In Portrait Drawing and Painting
Demonstrator: Matt DeProspero
Sunday, September 9, 11:30 am – noon

Watch Matt create a sketch in oil paint from a live model. The idea is to convey simple ways in which to truly capture the personality of the subject, and the demo will cover a variety of topics, such as posing and lighting the model, basic structure of the human head, and basic painting techniques.
Matt will also demonstrate taking the sketch to the next level (finishing the painting). Some examples from other artists will be shown, and Matt will have some information for people to take home.


Watercolor Textures
Demonstrator: Deena Ball
Sunday, September 9, 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Learn how to use a textured acrylic gel and gesso base coat under your watercolor paintings to produce vibrant colors and a variety of effects. Demonstration will show texturing methods and discuss materials, plus creating a painting on the textured surface and the use of luminous paints and watercolor pencils as the final touch.


Splatter Paint Technique
Demonstrator: Cari Brezina
Sunday, September 9, 2:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Learn a little bit about artist Jackson Pollack and then get to participate in a group splatter paint mural that will be displayed at Art Space Lansdowne.
